I just got back from the show in kentuky, yes i know it ended 15hours ago, but there were a lot of problems getting home, including one genius police officer on foot who ran out in front of my car as we were trying to escepe the kentucky speedway in the wrong lane of never ending cones and scolded me by asking if I thought I was at a racetrack...
I'll tell you one thing, for being the band with some of the most caring and dedicated fans, MetallicA really has kept those of us at the show in the dark about the whole Hetfieild injury. Even up until MetallicA was supposed to come on stage, there were many in the crowd that didn't know what was going on, and no one has let us know how James is doing. And the people working the met club booth were really hush hush about anythuing that they might have known
anyway, here is a very detailed set list that i remebered, make sure you post this so that everyone around the globe can see what MetallicA and a few friends can do on short notice.
Creeping Death, all 3 met, plus kenny from kid rock.
Bellz, awful atempt, all 3 met Jason didn't know the words, kenny and the other guitatist from kid rock.
Seek, really good, but this was when james was really missed cuz kirk sounds great, but not the same. It was really cool to hear throughout the show the parts that james does being played by kirk or someone else, it shows how much a a glue he really is. All 3 met plus kenny from kid rock
Master of Puppets/sanitarium all 3 metJason introduced Darren from SOAD by calling him a new friend who had told them last night that he knew every MetallicA song, he was great, even played teh slow part in teh middle almost perfectly (and Kirk went up to him right after the song and pointed out to him the notes that he had missed!) and teh lead singer from SOAD did an awesome job on the lyrics for sanitarium, but it was really funny to see him shading his eyes from teh spotlights with the lyric sheet
One all 3 met Darren played this one also, and john davis from korn read the lyrics then all hell broke loose!
Lars and kirk joined Korn for a song of their called Blind
Jason then Joined to sing that Cheech and Chong song about the kid and his dad, I don't know the name but Jason was loving it so much.
After that, Korn played a song of theirs i didn't recognize, but the neat thing was that jim Borden (ex faith no more) played drums on this one and also on Korn playing Slayers south of Heaven with Kid Rock reading the lyrics.
then Korn slinked away and kid rock and kenny joined for a few songs, they played half of sad but true , then Kid rock stopped the song, and said, you know what I have a version of this song too, and it goes like this... that was incredible, I'd say the highlight of the night. all 3 met and 2 of kid rocks guitarists were in on this one.
kid rock and kenny plus all met made up the core of the band for these next songs, a strange version of NEM, followed by CCR's fortunate son, and the rolling stones' jumping jack flash then they wheeled out something that looked like a road case, but ended up being kid rocks turtables, he trrew down a run dmc record and started cutting, and when he yelled gimme fuel gimme fire gimme that which I desire, I almost passed out, i was actually really good.
next was turn the page with just kid rock and the 3 met boys then was only the three met boys playing whiplash dedicated to james and they closed with just about everyone playing a suprisingly tight version of sandman
all teh bands seemed to have a great time, Jason looked like a school teacher moving people around all over the place. my friend and I were wondering what james would think of this It almost made him look like the taskmasker of the group and with him out for a few days, the old saying, when the cats away the mice will play seems to have set in!
lars said aug 2 at buckeye lake for the make up show, but a loca dj was saying august 6th, so who knows, i do know that buckeye lake is about 30minutes east of columbus ohio

Jaymz was hurt on the 7th in a jetski incident, therefore the full band did not play. Being a new venue, security was trying to be dicks and not allow tailgating, but people did it anyway. We were not allowed to bring water in, it was $3 a bottle. Beer was $6 a cup. This was a very disappointing concert. Most people left early because Jason was singing the whole time. They announced if you keep your stub Metallica will play a free concert. Not sure on date or time.

Let me start off by saying that I've always been an avid Metallica fan and I have always looked forward to seeing my first Metallica show. When they came on before System of a Down and had a local DJ tell us that Jaymz was in traction in Atlanta, a lot of steam was lost. I looked at my friend and said, "Well, maybe Kid Rock will save the day." Then came Sys of a Down. Sucked, we went to go get 3 bucks worth of bottled water. Came back for Powerman, which wasn't too disappointing all around. He definitely had the best crowd rapport of any band there including Korn. Kid Rocks' actual show was a big letdown, but after an hour and a half or more of waiting for what was to be a "Jam Session" with Metallica, they came on stage and did Creeping Death, which I was really looking forward to. Jason did a great job of covering for Jaymz on the first couple of songs, and Creeping Death was a great play. Then came Bellz, which got f***ed up a little, but it was still pretty wicked. Seek and Destroy was great, really long, and really rough. And master of puppetz got tore up too by Jason, who ironically confused the lyrics between verses. Then the lead singer of SOAD came on and tried his best to sing/read the lyrics of Sanitarium and did a pretty good job. Then they ended with more MOPz. Then we found out that Jonathan Davis was gonna be singing one (sitting down), and that was okay. Then Korn got up and pretty much took over for a few songs that everyone got into, but by the end, we were all like "Isn't what's left of Metallica supposed to be playing now?" Finally, Kid Rock took the vocals to some slayer and then to Sad But True, which was great but cut short to sing an altogether BETTER version of American Badass than he had done in his own show. Then he butchered (Kid) the lyrics to NEM, but saved the day with the best version of Fortunate Son (backed by the Met 3) that I have ever heard. Jumping Jack Flash was okay, and the remix to Fuel was a little desparate, but Turn the Page was pretty wicked the way KR sang it. That could definitely be done again. Whiplash was a kick-ass tribute to Het, and Enter Sandman is forever scarred by fading vocals, go-go dancers ( which were VERY entertaining most of the time :) ) and a great guitar performance which an extra verse at the finale.
Well, anyway, my day was full of topless women, drunks, drug abusers, and no Jaymz Hetfield, but you know what? I don't really care. I'm saw last night that Metallica truly cares about their fans, there's nothing we can do about an injury, artists are willing to band together as a family, and I can guaran-DAMN-tee you that I'll be clinching my stub till August ?, so that I can see what a full blown Met concert is like. Oh well, last night still kicked ass, and I don't need to look for bootlegs any longer. I've seen the best ones so far firsthand :).
