CENTRAL PARK
Jason lets us know that K-ROCK (92.3) in New York, when asked by a caller when Metallica would be there again, answered that he did not know but to "think gig in central park."
KIRK IN TRIBUTE?
David lets us know that Kirk might be playing in the Jimi Hendrix tribute at Woodstock, which is set to take place after the final act on the main stage, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Kirk has covered Hendrix before... WHIPLASH BASH
Could we possibly see Lars' new buddy & Detroit native Kid Rock joining the Y2K bill? Was that why he was onstage with them at the end of their Woodstock performance? Hmmm...
MORE PAY-PER-VIEW
LordVaelen has apparently learned from some radio DJs that Metallica is planning on putting the New Years Show on Pay Per View for $30-$40. Don't forget you can view Woodstock on PPV as well.
KISS IN DETRIOT?
Patrick lets us know that apparently some informal deliberations have taken place about adding
KISS as a second headliner with Ted Nugent to the Whiplash Bash set for New Year's Eve with Metallica.
GOING DOWN TO SOUTH PARK?
It's been fairly common knowledge that most of the Metallica boys are fans of the raunchy Comedy Central animated series South Park. So much so, you heard Jason mimicking parts of the show on the "Don't Call Us We'll Call You" radio special of a few years back; and yes, it was the movie Orgazmo written, directed and starring South Park creator's Trey Park and Matt Stone that Metalllica played for at the Playboy Mansion last year. So, now we ask.. is that REALLY James Hetfield performing in the new South Park movie? developing...
UPDATE: Just a reminder that this story is merely a RUMOR, and that Matt and Trey's band DVDA is credited with a great deal of the music in the South Park movie.. HOWEVER, both South Park & DVDA has often included UNCREDITED guest stars... AND NOW, KRKHAMMET let us know that it was unofficially confirmed by an employee of Q Prime that James lent his "Hetfield scream" to the track. READING??
Iman, who works for Best Buy, lets us know that they have a contest to go to the Reading Festival in London this summer and that they were told that Metallica is rumored to headline. The festival is set for August 27-30. There are no scheduled shows as of yet during these dates, so we'll see what happens. You can check out the Reading Festival website by clicking here.
SECOND SYMPHONICA??

reports that Michael Kamen "says that he and the band will collaborate
again in November at New York's Madison Square Garden, although he did
not mention which orchestral group would participate." When more is known,
we'll let you know.
OZ GIG?

let's us know: "My uncle who is a head security officer for the olympic
games informed me that Metallica have inquired or have been in some sought
of inquiry to play at the Sydney superdome. This has just been built and
will be home to the olympic basketball and gymnastics. My uncle said that
they will be possibly tagged with the grand opening of the dome maybe later
this year."

DATES
Canada's answer to MTV, Much
Music is reporting that the Metallica Symphony shows will be released
in North America on August 3rd. We can only guess this means an August
2nd release outside of North America.

WOODSTOCK
IS Member Jess
reports that Metallica will perform at Woodstock 1999 on July 24th. Woodstock
1999 will be in upstate New York on July 23rd-25th.
VH-1 VIDEO?
Sources say that you may see a video tape
released of the recent VH-1 Behind The Music episode on Metallica. VH-1
recently released the Shania Twain episode of the series, if this is successful
expect to see more releases in the future.. including Metallica. You would
also expect to see footage not used in the original viewing!
NASCAR?
Stories say you might see a Metallica sponsored
Nascar race car soon. It's no secret both James and Jason are fans of the
sport!

RIO CANCELLED?
Rumors have been flying about the May 9th
show in Rio, Brazil at Metropolitan being cancelled, but we haven't heard
anything official about it just yet.

a few Hawaiian members. We don't have the answer.. but the question is:
"Are tickets going on sale this Saturday for a Metallica show in Hawaii
on April 12th?"
WHISKEY VIDEO
RE-REVISITED
Canada's Much
Music plans to show the Whiskey In The Jar video on their "Loud" program
on March 20th, members of the band are rumored to appear as well. Loud
is shown every Saturdays at Midnight (EST) / 9PM (PST). Much Music is also
available, through cable and satellite through out the USA.
WWF & METALLICA?

Wrestling Inline and Mikey G.: "..WWF is currently in negotiations
with Metallica, to just make a guest appearance, and MAYBE do a little
Diddy at the beginning to kick off WM. And lastly, it is almost a lock,
that Sarah Michelle Gellar will time keep a match."
UPDATE
Rumors continue to circulate that Metallica
will perform the Star Spangled Banner for WrestleMania XV scheduled for
March 28th in Philadelphia.
US WOODSTOCK?
Entertainment Weekly reports that Metallica
may play the US version of Woodstock. Says Lars: If I was a betting man,
I'd say we would probably play." The US version of Woodstock is set for
July 23rd through 25th in the former Griffiss Airforce Base in Rome, New
York. Metallica is already confirmed for the European Woodstock held July
16th through 18th in Wiener-Neustadt Austria.

US SHOWS?
Interviews with Ted Nugent reveal that
he may be appearing with Metallica at more than one show next winter. There
is rumor of a possibility of another holiday show in the San Francisco
area!
WHISKEY DELAY?
Stories say that the Whiskey In The Jar
singles and video are delayed due to the video being rejected by MTV. The
video follows Turn The Page clip which featured a stripper/prostitute and
nudity. Jonas Ackerlund directed both video's and is somewhat noted for
creating video's that cause controversy. The Whiskey video is reported
to included different acts of sexual behavior, most notably a lesbian scene.

Stories say to watch for the premiere of
the new Metallica video for "Whiskey In The Jar" on MTV sometime this week.
Possibly on Monday January 25th during the "Total Request" show.
NEW BABY?
Word is spreading that Lani, Kirk's wife,
might be pregnant. Apparently this was revealed by Kirk himself, but for
now, it is still unconfirmed.

VENEZUELA
A promotional item states 'solo el Viernes
30 de Abril, en el estacionamiento del poliedro de Caracas' - translation
... Metallica, April 30, in the parking lot of El Poliedro, in Venezuela.
This is the closest thing to a specific date known so far. 'El Poliedro'
has a capacity of over 10,000, however the parking can hold around 50,000.
The background of the promo apparently says 'Die, Die my Darling'

UFO TRIBUTE
Tim Henderson of Hard News reports that
METALLICA will be appearing on an upcoming UFO tribute album entitled Spaced
Out. However, says Tim, the "details around this project appear suspect
looking at the big names involved" and "No label has been mentioned."
Metallica doing a tribute to UFO is not unlikely, as Kirk has often expressed
his liking of the band, however, the likeliness of a new cover being released
does not seem realistic unless the boys plan on hitting the studio again,
but who knows, we'll just have to wait and see. Also supposedly appearing
on the tribute are such bands as Megadeth, Judas Priest,
Bruce
Dickinson, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Overkill,
Anthrax,
and Nevermore, among others. As soon as we know more, we'll let
you know.

CHILE IN MAY
It is rumored that Metallica will be hitting
Chile in May on their South American Tour '99, in addition to Venezuela,
Brazil, Columbia, etc. No official dates or details have been announced
yet.

NEW TRACKS?
We're receiving many reports that the band
and Kamen have already completed work on a track or two. This could be
that the band has already completed recording a track or tracks and are
awaiting Kamen to add the orchestra to the track, or that there are track(s)
fully completed with band and orchestra, or that they have simply have
a song or songs written or it could mean any number of other things.
WHISKEY AS
A SINGLE?
Kerrang magazine reports that the next
single from Garage Inc, "Whiskey In the Jar" will be released on January
25, 1999. A video has already been shot. We would like to remind everyone
that Kerrang has a somewhat shaky history with news.
