Kirk, or "Quirk" as he is often referred to, was asked to join
Metallica on April 1, 1983. He flew from San Francisco to New
York to join the band just before recording Kill 'Em All. Before
Metallica, he was a founder of the Bay area band, Exodus
Kirk Hammett drinks Martini's and Guinness.
Kirk's tattoo was a present to himself for Christmas 1995,
it reads: Made in SF 11-18-62. It's wrapped around
his belly button. He also has hot rod flames on his thighs.
He wears a labret just below his lips, and has multiple other
piercings.
Kirk has recently befriended guitar legend Carlos Santana
and played with him at a tribute concert, a friendship that
included a recent concert with Carlos for charity.
Kirk produced Death Angel's original demo's and has contributed
solo's for Metallica artist Pushead's band Septic Death, and
played on Pansy Division's cover of Breaking the Law.
Kirk co-owns a film studio/production comapny with Primus'
Les Claypool, Kirk and Les went to school together.
Other Interests
Kirk is the "free spirit" of the band, outside of Metallica
he continues his education in a variety of fields.

Kiss, John Coltrane, Government Mule, Chet Baker, Prez Prado,
Alice In Chains, David Bowie, U2, King Crimson, Robert Johnson,
Radiohead.

Kirk worked at a Burger King and was founder of Exodus.
