KIRK ON CLINTON
10.28.98

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, personalities from the music and entertainment business were asked to share their opinions of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal.  Kirk had this to say about the ongoing situation in our nation's capital:

"I'm not going to condone behavior like that. Basically, it's wrong. But impeachment is fucking serious. The last president threatened with impeachment did something really bad: bugging the Democrats' campaign offices. The only thing Clinton is guilty of is committing adultery. He should be punished. But, goddamn, he should not be drawn and quartered in public like he is. Let the punishment fit the crime.

Clinton is really good at telling everybody what they want to hear without really giving anything. I did vote for Clinton. I don't follow politics as much as other people do, but what he's done for the economy and what he's done for the arts really outshines what he's done with his zipper."

METALLICA IN HEAVEN
10.19.98

When doing the news, I try not to put any of my personal feelings in it...but right now...I AM SO FUCKING JEALOUS OF NICLAS SWANLUND!!!! Niclas...who is one of the coolest guys I know...holds up the MetOnTour Page and takes numerous photos and what-not for the band. Mr. Swedish Erotica normally has his fair share of women around him...but this time...this time is soooo much different. METALLICA PLAYED A GIG AT THE PLAYBOY MANSION IN LOS ANGELES!!!! The crowd, consisting of Playmates and a handful of celebrities (including Ron Jeremy) saw a 45 minutes set consisting of the following tunes...

  • Die Die My Darling
  • Fuel
  • King Nothing
  • Turn the Page
  • Wherever I May Roam
  • Until It Sleeps
  • Sad But True
  • Enter Sandman
  • So What
  • If there is any show that I wish I would have seen, it would be this one. Screw seeing Metallica back on the Justice tour...I want to see Metallica play the fucking Playboy Mansion!!! Mucho thanks to Niclas who brought the whole gig to the web...photos are up now, a more in depth review should be coming later today...... COVER DESCRIPTION
    10.13.98

More thanks go out to Mr. Wiig for reporting that there is indeed a cover of a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds song (most likely 'Loverman') and it is very 'Bleeding Me' sounding. On a personal note, I'm a big Nick Cave fan and this song is a very great song for 'Tallica to cover. The chorus sounds like a crunching riff will fit perfectly...and the lyrics are twisted. :)

    GARAGE VIDEOS
    10.13.98

Mucho thanks to Steve Wiig and Chapter of the Mad. Seems that Metallica is down in LA filming a video for the first single off Garage Inc. It is not known what song it is for, but the video should debut around the time of the release of the album.

    METonTOUR UPDATE
    10.12.98

I just received some great mail that I'd like to share with you. MetOnTour reports that he will be getting some news and pictures from Metallica on Sunday. Could this be the tracklisting? Nobody knows...but we all can check out MetOnTour in a week to find out. He also told me that he'll be updating the site everyday next week with new pics and info. They sure know how to get us excited.......the anticipation is killing me!!!

    CHEESY FILM COMPANY
    10.12.98

Kirk Hammett, along with Les Claypool of Primus, video director Mark Kohr, producer Ron Shapiro, and fimmaker Miura Smith, are in the process of formaing a Northern California-based independent film production company. Claypool explains that it was created beacause..."we all have so many friends up here who are in the business, doing a lot of commercial work, and video, and they're all finding to get the big jobs they have to move to Los Angeles. What we wanted to do is create an entity up here that keeps the creative people here. Why? Because the quality of life is better." Is also went into saying that "Kirk is way into it...he's very excited. He's been a film buff ever since I've known him. Of all the people in his camp, he's definitely got the best eye. He has very similar tastes to ours, and we're certainly in the sanme headsdpace. It's great to have him onboard." Keep an eye for the companies first project, South of the Pump to hit an art house sometime within the next year.

  • MORE DVD NEWS
    9.30.98

MTV News reports that the new Metallica DVD, supposedly entitled Cunning Stunts, will be out on December 8th.

    MORE GARAGE DAYS INFO
    9.30.98

A contact in Chile hooked us up with some new info on the Garage Days Re-Released album, straight from PolyGram. It seems that the release date is going to be pushed back a week to the 24th in America and the 23rd elsewhere. In addition to that, it sounds like TEN new covers are being recorded including covers by Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Bob Seger, and a killer Mercyful Fate medley. More info when it's available.

    DVD/VIDEO DELAYED
    9.25.98

November 17th was too good to be true. The Fort Worth DVD/Video (under the working title Shitload) has been delayed. An updated release date is not yet available, either. Keep your eyes and ears open...hopefully it'll be available by 1999.

    CLUB MEMBERS ONLY SHOWS
    9.21.98

The recent installment on the Metallica Club newsline suggests the possibilty of Club Shows in the future. To hear for yourself call and listen to the newsline.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY REPORTS ON COVERS ALBUM
    9.21.98

As featured in Entertainment Weekly #451...

The 17 year vets of thrash reload record stores with a double CD of covers, and nuthin' but covers. Included will be the band's out-of-print 1987 classic The $5.98 EP: Garage Days Revisited and at least eight still-to-be- determined homages to obscure metal groups and, perhaps to those closet headbangers Bob Seger, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. (Nov 17)

    BEHIND THE MUSIC
    9.21.98

On November 22, VH1 will air a Metallica installment of the famed Behind the Music series. Throughout the episode there will be interviews with Ray Burton (Cliff's dad), John Marshall, Ron Quintana, Ron McGovney, Scott Ian, John Bush, and Dave Mustaine. It seems that Mustaine admitted that it was his fault that he was kicked out of the band back in '83. The band also comes clean about the hazing rituals that were at Jason Newsted's expense when he joined the band. They claim that it was very mean spirited and a reaction of Cliff's death. And, as a present to us all, the episode is not all-Lars. Each member is featured equally and is not the typical 'Lars on the band' as it has been in past interviews.

    US APOCALYPTICA RELEASE
    9.21.98

Apocalyptica's new record, Inquisition Symphony will be released on the US market on September 22. Inquisition Symphony features a handful of Metallica covers, as well as Faith No More, Sepultura, and Pantera covers...all on cellos.

    UPDATE
    8.29.98

Jason's song on the Sepultura album is actually called "Hatred Aside," not "Hatred Inside" as previously reported. Jason play baritone guitar on the track, not bass as previously reported.

    INTER SANDMAN GATHERING
    8.27.98

Those of you going to the last couple dates of the tour, keep your eyes open for the Inter Sandman guys to be around at a couple shows. Chapter Head Dan Nykolayko will be at Friday's Irvine Meadows gig, as well as the shows in Mountain View and Sacremento, CA. Dan will be joined by Webmaster Jeff for the Phoenix and Las Vegas gigs and then Dan will end his journey at the San Diego show. Look for Dan at the Club Booth at these gigs...and Jeff should be around that area too for the shows he'll be at. Also...all beautiful girls at these gigs are required to give Dan and Jeff the attention that they have been lacking. ;) Just kiddin'!

    TICKET ORDERS
    8.27.98

The latest Adobe Acrobat version of the Ticket Order form is now posted in the NEWS area of the web site and the Gallery of keyword: Metallica.

    JASON ROCKS BRAZIL
    8.19.98

On August 15, Jason performed in Sao Paulo, Brazil along with Sepultura. This was part of a benefit show that featured several guests, including Mike Patton (ex Faith No More). Jason played and sang on "Last Caress" and "Green Hell" and also contributed vocals and bass to the new Sepultura album called "Against", due out October 7th in the states.

    GARAGE DAYS RUMORS!!!

LOST IN THE 'VALLEY OF MISERY'
    8.14.98

'Valley of Misery' is NOT Metallica. Confused yet? Well, the band who recorded the song is a Finnish band called "Holochaust" (which should not be confused with Holocaust who recorded 'The Small Hours.') Holochaust does not have an album yet and have put a few of their songs on the 'net as MP3's. To further confuse matters, they have some Metallica MP3's on their site as well. Their website has lyrics to the song and shows that the song was indeed written by Holochaust. They even give a story behind the lyrics to the song. There you have it. Proof of the false existence of a new Metallica song.

    EARTHQUAKE ROCKS SF
    8.12.98

At 7:11 am PDT, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit the San Francisco area. There were no reports of damage or injury. The quake was centered in the San Juan Bautista area and reportedly swayed buildings and the train system was stopped. It is belived that only half the band was in the area, as Jason is rumored to be in Brazil for the Sepultura benefit concert and Lars was said to be in NYC.

    NEW "DEMO?"
    8.12.98

So you've all heard the new Metallica demo, Valley Of Misery? IS can say with certainty that this is not Metallica.

    MYLES ULRICH
    8.9.98

Lars and Skylar Ulrich welcomed their new son, Myles, into the world at 4:15am on August 5, 1998 in New York City. Myles weighed in at 7 pounds and 8 ounces and was measured at 20 inches. Mother and son are doing fine. We'd all like to congratulate the Ulrich's on the news!!!

    Source: AOL Keyword: Metallica

    JASON IN BRAZIL
    8.8.98

Jason will be part of a benefit concert on August 15th in Brazil. "Noise Against Hunger" is organized by Sepultura and features their home debut with new singer Derrick Greene. Also guest starring at this show will be Mike Patton formerly of Faith No More. Proceeds from the show go to help relief efforts due to severe crop damage in areas of the country

    SAY UNKLE
    8.8.98

Psyence Fiction by UNKLE will be released August 24th in England. featuring Jason Newsted from Metallica, Thom Yorke of Radiohead, Richard Aschcroft of the Verve, The Beastie Boys' Mike D and DJ Shadow amongst others. The album will be released on the Mo' Wax label.

Jason and Mike D collaborated on a song called "The Knock (Drums Of Death Pt 2)."

    MEGADAVE SPEAKS
    8.8.98

Dave Mustaine recently posted this in the message boards at the new Megadeth website www.megadeth.com: "And to those of you that post here that hate us, don't let the door hit ya' on the ass. To very VERY large degree, Megadeth AND Metallica both are responsible for almost all of the great new metal bands out today. Give us a break! Show us both some respect. And if ya' don't like either one, or both for that matter than you are excused.
