Hosted by Carmen Electra, 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock airs the episode naming Metallica the #5 artist of their poll on Friday November 17th at 10 PM. The list was assembled by a panel of rock artists that included Pat Benatar, Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, Ozzy Osbourne, Scott Ian and John Bush of Anthrax, Korn's Dave Silveria, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple, Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters, Mike Bordin of Faith No More, Skid Row's Sebastian Bach, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Yngvie Malmsteen, Lita Ford, and Geddy Lee of Rush. The special features never-before-seen performance footage, rare photos, archival clips, and new exclusive interviews with the artists themselves, including James Hetfield himself. Rounding out the top five were: #1 Led Zeppelin, #2 Black Sabbath, #3 AC/DC, and #4 Jimi Hendrix.

Metallica swept every category they were nominated for at the Artist Direct Awards.. here are the awards and the percentage of votes received for each:

KIRK TAKES BACK SF
KIRK HAMMETT of METALLICA, JELLO BIAFRA, MARK EITZEL, VICTORIA WILLIAMS, organizer IAN BRENNAN and more will participate in the free "Take Back San Francisco" concert on Nov. 5 in U.N. Plaza in San Francisco. The concert will follow the Million Band March protesting the closing of a local rehearsal. Story from Jonathan Graf. UPDATE: SonicNet has a report on the story which states that Kirk will be giving a speech at the rally, and that Elektra's spokesperson says Kirk is "expected to participate in the march, but that his plans to speak at the event are still tentative." The concert, with "surprise performances" will be broadcast Berkeley's KPFA-FM radio (where you can listen to streaming audio!).

Chris tells us: Metallica will be on MuchMusic this Saturday at at 9:00 PM (eastern) in "Much @ The Experience Music Project," Some of the world’s top acts got together to celebrate the launching of the Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington. Includes performances from Kid Rock, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Dr. Dre & Eminem, Snoop Dogg. (first aired Aug. 5/00) From Minus Clover 84: In the Mets game on Monday, they had a huge speaker system set up along the field. The system was so loud the stadium was shaking. The announcer at the game said "Even Metallica doesn't have this big of sound system!" Also worthing noting is Mike Piazza, who was the phone in guest on the Metallica "Don't call us, we'll call you" radio special, congrats to Mike!
