SANDMAN SAMPLED
03.30.01

Zorlack tells us: "Electronics Arts has released a new baseball game for the Playstation game console and one of the main music tracks is called "Power To The Beats" performed by a group and features an appearance of Chuck D on vocals and if you listen closely you can hear Metallica's Enter Sandman riff. You can also view the credits of the game and it does say Metallica's Enter Sandman was sampled. Not sure if it is in the Playstation 2 version of the game but it is in the PS One version. Anyway a new twist on a old great!"

JAMES SEES NICK CAVE GIG
03.30.01

Yes, that was James Hetfield at the Nick Cave solo show Monday, March 27 at The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album is due on April2nd.

The Angel In Devil's Boots Unofficial Nick Cave website has this to say about James' appearance at the show: "...the first musician to arrive was James Hetfield from Metallica. He went in and headed for a good backstage seat for himself and his date. I asked for a picture, but he just looked at me like he was angry for me asking and walked in."

Thanks to Miroslav.

DVD DELAYED AGAIN
03.29.01

Looking for the Metallica Black Album DVD Audio? So are we! The official Metallica website still states the release date of March 27th, 2001. The Metallica fanclub site has absolutely nothing posted abut the DVD at all. Amazon shows an estimated release date for April 6th.

UPDATE:AmIEvil714 sends us this update: "Just an update on the DVD, those fuckers delayed it AGAIN. It's official on Metallicadirect.com. April 10th now. Same as the S&M DVD fiasco. Delayed and delayed and delayed...If we're lucky Live shit will be out on DVD for the 2010 reunion tour." Thanks AmIEvil, at least with the S&M DVD we had updates regarding the delays from www.Metallica.com, currently that site has nothing about the possibility of this DVD.

METALLICA BLASTS NAPSTER (AGAIN)
03.29.01

Metallica has complained to the U.S. District Court in San Francisco that Napster has failed to block access to its music as ordered under the court's injunction, the band's lawyer said Wednesday.

Metallica's brief said Napster has refused to take any meaningful technological steps to bar its users from swapping the band's songs, according to Howard King, the lawyer for Metallica.

The band filed the brief Tuesday, as a recording industry trade group raised the same issues in papers filed with the same court.

"TRYING OUT 150 BASS PLAYERS"
03.28.01

13th Street has a posted the final part of their interview with Kirk Hammett. This last segment, '13 Questions,' has some interesting tidbits... first and foremost, it appears to be the latest interview given by any members of the band, it was took place in February 2001. It's a cool read, an interesting look into the non-musical side of Kirk... if you're wondering answers to questions like what his favorite scary movies and books are, this is the place to go.

Our favorite question is...

What's your worst nightmare?
Trying out 150 bass players.

Be sure to check it out now!

PLAYBOY RE-REVISITED
03.26.01

Nationally and web broadcast program Hard Drive Radio interviewed Rob Tannebaum author of the now infamous Metallica interview in the latest edition of Playboy. Several things were talked about in this weeks first installment of the interview... here's some highlights:

Rob has written for NY Times, Village Voice, Rolling Stone, Spin, GQ, George and various newspapers.

ABOUT JASON'S LEAVING
"I can't say that I saw it coming, but it certainly makes alot of sense in retrospect."

"...there was alot of fighting, alot of anger, alot of bickering going on between the four of them."

"This really rose above the level of tension, into animosity and unresolvable conflict."

(the press release announcing Jason's departure) "...it asked more questions than it answered."

(Why did Jason leave?) "...until he answers that question himself, frankly, the best answer that anybody can find is gonna be in the Playboy interview."

MISC TIDBITS ABOUT THE INTERVIEW
Rob interviewed the band at end of 2000... James at his home, Lars in NY at a studio for a band of his, Kirk at home, Jason at a recording studio in SF.

The news of Jason's departure came the day before the issue went to press, some last minute notes about Jason's departure were then able to make issue

Rob confirms Lars and Skylar are (were?) separated.

COOL QUOTES
"One of the great luxuries of the Playboy interview is that you get to spend a prolonged period of time interviewing the person, two of four of the guys in Metallica said it was longest interview that they'd ever given. And over the course of spending enough time with somebody. You get a better view, a deeper view of who they are and hope that they open up a little bit more. Which I think they did."

"One of the nice things that happend after the story came out was that I was directed to Metallica fan web site, which is called Inter Sandman, with an I at the begining: www.i-n-t-e-r-sandman.com; and it was really nice to see that Metallica fans, even fans so devoted and so hardcore they would start a website for Metallica, reading the Playboy interview, found out alot of things about Metallica that they hadn't known before."

"One of the things I'm proud of, is that even hardcore Metallica fans reading this Playboy interview, read things that hadn't known before."

Thanks to Rob for the kind words! You can check out Hard Drive Radio for the entire interview and their weekly Mandatory Metallica, featuring Stone Cold Crazy. ..and don't forget to pick up the magazine!

Thanks to Tim for pointing us to the story!!

13th Street has a new, exclusive, four part interview with horror maven Kirk.
