A U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel ordered the shut down of trading of copyrighted music on Napster on Wednesday, saying the online company was encouraging "wholesale infringing" against the music industry. Ivan tells us that a friend from the Georgia Dome has let him know about some possible changes regarding the Atlanta 'make up' shows: "He said that due to Georgia Dome's unavailability, Metallica will perform 2 (two) gigs in the row (Aug. 5 and Aug. 6) at Atlanta Coca-Cola Lakewood Amphitheater, since it's just 27,000 capacity...not Dome's 50,000..." Over 97,000 passed through the gates of Chicago Motor Speedway by 6:30 PM for the Hard Rock Cafe Rockfest presented by Oldsmobile Alero featuring Metallica, Kid Rock, Stone Temple Pilots, Third Eye Blind, The Tragically Hip, Veruca Salt, Tonic, Barenaked Ladies, Guster, Vertical Horizon, Nine Days and luvjOi. The all-day festival was capped by a fireworks display and a once-in-a-lifetime Kid Rock/Metallica duet of the Bob Seger classic, "Turn the Page." "The show was a huge success for all involved," said Chris Tomasso, sr. director of marketing and productions, Hard Rock Cafe Intl., Inc. Metallica.com has posted a story that let's us know to watch The Tonight Show tonight, they add "You never know who might show up. Kid Rock is scheduled to perform on the program tonight. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno airs on NBC at 11:35 PM Eastern/Pacfic. KIRK THE COVER BOY
Kirk graces the cover of the new Guitar World, dated September 2000, the mag has in depth interview with him as well as a centerfold poster of Kirk playing a Godin acoutic/electric while, with pants at his ankles using the restroom. This issue has 'lessons' on how to play No Leaf Clover and I Disappear... did you know Kirk played a Telecaster on I Disappear? Also in this issue is an interview with Creed's Mark Tremonti, who has some very cool things to say about Metallica. Mark says: "from day one I really wanted to learn Metallica songs." When asked what song by his favorite bands he wished he had written, he replied "Call of Ktulu is probably my favorite Metallica song. It's a very atmospheric instrumental; it has lots of peaks and valleys, and it takes you on a ride." METALLICA TO MARS
