06/07/2004 Entry: "SOME KIND OF EP"
Billboard reports:
In conjunction with the July 9 opening of the Metallica documentary "Some Kind of Monster," Elektra has set a July 13 release date for an EP of the same name. The eight-track release will feature two versions of the song from which the film takes its moniker: one drawn from the 2003 album "St. Anger" plus an edit by producer Bob Rock.
Six live tracks recorded June 11, 2003, in Paris, are also featured: "The Four Horsemen," "Damage, Inc.," "Leper Messiah," "Motorbreath," "Ride the Lightning" and "Hit the Lights." Limited editions of the EP will bundled with a compressed T-shirt in large and extra-large sizes, emblazoned with the film's poster art.
Directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, "Some Kind of Monster" offers an unvarnished behind-the-scenes look at Metallica's recent past, including the departure of longtime bassist Jason Newsted and vocalist James Hetfield's stint in rehab.
Metallica is in the midst of a European tour that ran into a snag last night (June 6) at the U.K.'s Download Festival, when drummer Lars Ulrich was unable to perform due to an undisclosed medical emergency. According to the group's official Web site, Ulrich was ably replaced during the 11-song set by Slipknot's Joey Jordison, Slayer's Dave Lombardo and Ulrich's own drum tech.
As previously reported, Metallica will shift from Elektra to Warner Bros. Records for its next studio album, which Ulrich told Billboard won't begin taking shape until next year.

i recon... they definately should have put unreleased songs onto this ep. whats the point of live tracks on a cd when livemetallica.com has these?
although that bob rock edit would be interesting, wonder if its a demo version of monster or the version thats on the websites page as background music, or maybe he's remastered it with a fuller sound or something, should be cool

Another death knell for this once great band. "Some Kind Of Monster" is just an attempt to make the band seem relevant in this day and age. Nobody wants to watch a bunch of old guys deal with alcohol while recording an album that flopped.
What's this Bob Rock edit? According to all interviews, all the songs on St. Anger WERE Bob Rock edits. They twisted everything around in Pro Tools after the fact because they're too lazy to actually take the time and record all the takes required for an album. Bob Rock even spun all this computer editing as an "art movement."

sorry df but all your comments are irrelevant. do u really think bands played entire songs before pro tools was around? what bob rock was talking about was re-arranging songs via pro tools and seeing what they sounded like, thus saving the time in the recording studio . once they found a good soundign arrangement they would go back and record it properly.
your obviously a troll, who hates st anger and loves slayer or whatever, i dont care. st anger rocks.

so this is the release that was supposedly going to consist of songs that didn't make st. anger? 6 live trax? hmmm...that's rather disappointing.
