We wish the couple nothing but many, many, many happy years together!

We'd also like to pass Mrs. McNeil a pair of earplugs for all the guitar picking and Metallica playing in their house!

LARS IN NY PROMOTING DDT
2.18.99

Lars appeared briefly on New York City's WXRK 92.3 K-Rock around 4:30 yesterday. Lars was at the station to promote DDT, a band on his record label. DJ Will Pendarvis found Lars chatting with station managment and brought Lars on air for a few moments. The two premeired one song off of the upcoming album while (which was still on the original DAT). Pendarvis who settled into his new position recently in New York surprised the audience and himself in disbelief that Ulrich was there to say hello and chat. DDT's debut album is expected to be out in April.

METALLICA BATTLES FOR DEATH ROW INMATE
2.12.99

Kirk Hammett has written to a death row inmate who is battling to overturn a triple murder conviction. Damien Echols was found guilty of the murder of three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas, in May 1993 and Echols - 17 at the time of his arrest - was sentenced to death by lethal injection following a trial which has been blasted by many legal experts who claim that Echols, a Metallica fan, was singled out for attention just because he wore black, listened to heavy metal and read books about the occult. Two other teenagers, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, both received life sentences. According to a spokesman for Metallica, Hammett first became aware of the case when filmmakers approached the band for permission to use music from …And Justice for All on the soundtrack of a film about the case. The resulting documentary, Paradise Lost - The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills featured three Metallica songs (IS Note: Call of Ktulu, Orion and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) were eventually heard in the movie) and won an award.

A spokesman for Q prime, Metallica's management companies, said: "This is a cause that is very close to the bands heart-Kirk's in particular. Its not surprising to that he would have written to Echols."  In his letter, Hammett offered moral support, urging Echols to "hang in there", adding, "we're all behind you".  Filmmakers Joel Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky are assembling a sequel to the original movie in hope to once again include Metallica tracks. It's slated for release in late 1999.
